The Fine Odd™ starts from a question: what happens when everyone tries to be odd?

The world has moved from being uncomfortable with difference to becoming increasingly invested in displaying it. Being unusual, distinctive, provocative, personal or outside the norm has become a value in itself. But the more widely these gestures are adopted, the less odd they become. What once stood outside the norm can be turned into an aesthetic, a position, a lifestyle, even a marketable identity.

The Fine Odd™ does not attempt to define what oddness is. Instead, it sets oddness as a condition and invites artists to respond to it through their own practices. A fetish, an obsession, an object, a gesture, an image, a visual language, or anything that questions where the ordinary ends and the odd begins can enter the field.

What matters is not that these responses share a common identity, but that they approach the same condition from different positions. The curator then determines which of these responses can occupy the same frame; how they alter one another, contradict one another, or simply exist beside one another.

In this sense, The Fine Odd™ is not looking for a definition of the odd. This Unconventional Art Open Call leaves that definition open to works dealing with 18+ themes; allowing different interpretations to coexist without being reduced to the same thing.

Each submission is reviewed as part of the curatorial process for The Fine Odd™. Artists may submit up to 3 or 5 pieces depending on the selected submission tier.

What the Fee Supports.

The Fine Odd™ is independently produced by Hand-Fetish-Projects®. The submission fee helps sustain the infrastructure behind the publication; from receiving and archiving submissions to the time and resources required to review, select, edit and develop the final publication.

The fee contributes to:

• Submission infrastructure; file hosting, storage and technical handling of submitted works.
• Curatorial review; the time required to examine, compare and contextualize each submission within the wider field of works received.
• Editorial development; selection, sequencing, image preparation and the development of the publication as a coherent artistic object.
• Production & circulation; publication preparation, print production and the development of relationships with bookstores, cultural platforms and other distribution partners.
• Archive; maintaining a record of submitted and selected works as part of HFP's ongoing publishing practice.

The fee does not purchase publication, selection or exhibition. It supports the process through which each submission is considered.

Submission does not guarantee selection, publication, exhibition or commercial representation.

HFP retains full curatorial discretion over the selection and presentation of works. Not every submitted piece will necessarily be selected, even when an artist is included in the publication.

Submitted works must be the artist's own work, or the artist must have the necessary rights and permissions to submit them.

The submission fee is non-refundable once the submission has been received and entered into the review process.

By submitting, artists agree that HFP may reproduce selected works for the purposes of The Fine Odd™, including publication, exhibition, archival documentation and related editorial or promotional materials, with appropriate artist credit.

HFP does not claim ownership of submitted artworks or intellectual property.
